Barbara Frederikse
Ms. Frederikse is a lawyer with the firm.
Barbara has practiced commercial litigation since her call to the Bar and has argued cases at all levels of Ontario’s Courts, including the Court of Appeal. As a litigator, her practice is in all areas of commercial litigation including collection matters on behalf of banks and other creditors, commercial lease disputes, bankruptcy and insolvency, and construction liens.
Notable cases include acting as counsel for a commercial landlord in successfully arguing against a Trustee in Bankruptcy’s attempt to assign a commercial lease (upheld by the Ontario Court of Appeal) and obtaining a punitive damages award relating to a contractor’s acts of bad faith (upheld by the Divisional Court).
Barbara is also involved in commercial matters, and as a solicitor represents lenders in drafting and negotiating their security, negotiating, drafting and advising in all areas of commercial leasing, and the acquisition, sale and financing of commercial real estate.
Currently a member of the Law Society of Upper Canada, and the Metropolitan Toronto Lawyer’s Association, Barbara is also a former President of the Board of Directors of Participation House. In the community, Barbara also acts as an assistant coach for youth hockey. |
